North Restaurant (Shomal) - Persian Restaurant Photography in Toronto

This project was shot for North Restaurant, also known as Shomal ("North" in Farsi), a well-established Persian restaurant located near Yonge and Steeles, in the heart of Toronto's Little Tehran district. As one of the larger Persian dining destinations in the GTA, North needed a set of images versatile enough to serve two very different purposes: updating their printed and digital menu, and fueling ongoing social media content.

For the menu photography, the focus was on clean, accurate representation, consistent lighting, true-to-life colour, and compositions that let each dish read clearly at a glance, whether a guest is browsing a printed menu or scrolling a delivery app. For the social media set, the approach shifted toward a more dynamic, close-up style designed to stop the scroll: steam rising off a fresh kebab, the glisten of saffron butter over rice, textures that translate well into Instagram posts and Reels.

Shooting for both use cases in a single session is a practical, cost-effective approach many restaurants in the GTA's Persian dining scene are adopting, since it maximizes the return on a single photography booking while keeping the restaurant's visual identity consistent across every platform. As a Toronto photographer with deep experience in Persian and Middle Eastern cuisine, Feriphoto understands the specific dishes, textures, and presentation style that make this cuisine especially photogenic.
